The Citadel of Saladin, also
known as the Cairo Citadel, is a medieval fortress located on a hill in the
center of Cairo, Egypt. It was built by the famous Muslim general and ruler
Saladin in the 12th century.
Saladin was a
Kurdish Muslim who rose to power as the vizier of the Fatimid caliphate in
Egypt. In 1171, he overthrew the Fatimid caliphate and established the Ayyubid
dynasty, which would rule Egypt and other parts of the Islamic world for the
next century.
Coptic Cairo is a
historic district in the city of Cairo, Egypt, that is home to many ancient
churches and other religious sites. The district is named after the Coptic
Orthodox Church, which is one of the oldest Christian denominations in the
world and has a strong presence in Egypt.
One of the most
famous churches in Coptic Cairo is the Hanging Church, which is also known as
the Church of the Virgin Mary. The church is located above a gatehouse of the
Roman fortress of Babylon, and it is one of the oldest Christian churches in
Egypt, dating back to the 4th or 5th century AD. The church is known for its
beautiful wooden roof, which is shaped like a boat and represents the story of
Noah’s Ark.

Mokattam hills, which are the highest point in Cairo, were built over. Because
of its advantageous location overlooking the city, which made it difficult for
attackers to come from the east, it was also able to dominate the other four
Islamic cities from the opposite side.
